Creative Arts
The Creative Arts are a key area of the academic curriculum at MacKillop. They provide an enriching cultural experience which complements other areas of study at the school. The Arts provide a good balance between practical and theoretical learning and allow students to express themselves in a supportive environment.
The Arts are invaluable because they prepare young people for the world of work: people who are innovative thinkers, skilled communicators and productive team players are highly valued. The collaborative nature of the Arts provide students with opportunities to foster the interpersonal and intrapersonal skills required to work effectively in the 21st Century.
At MacKillop the Creative Arts include Dance, Drama, Music, Visual Arts and Photography, Video and Digital Imaging (PVDI).
In Stage 4 (Years 7 and 8) Music and Visual Arts are taken by all students. In Stages 5 and 6 all subjects are electives. In Years 9 and 10 Drama, Music and Visual Arts are offered and in Years 11 and 12 they may choose from Dance, Drama, Music, Visual Arts and PVDI.
The Creative Arts are at the core of cultural cocurricular activities at the College. In Music many of the girls are involved in Choir, Concert Band, Orchestra and several chamber ensembles whichvary from year to year depending on the interests of the students.
For more information on cocurricular activities involving the Creative Arts please see our Cultural page.
Our students regularly perform at the Bathurst Eisteddfod and at a number of other venues in Bathurst. Each year the Diocese conducts an Instrumental and Choral Day which our students attend.
Those students who have a bent towards individual and group performance are fully catered for with the House Music Festival which showcases our students' at the end of Term Two every year.
Visual Arts students also have many opportunities to share their work with others. This ranges from a display ofjunior students' self portraits in the canteen area, to installations in the courtyards and small rotating exhibitions in the foyer.
The College has two Drama rooms (one with a full lighting rig and blackout facilities), a Music Room, several Music practice rooms, a small technology lab, a pottery room, a Year 12 Visual Arts studio and two Visual Arts classrooms. Students who study PVDI have access tothe latest technology.
