Visual Arts
As an elective in Years 9 and 10 the Visual Arts builds on the Mandatory Course and provides further extension and depth in Visual Arts. The course is designed for possible further study in Years 11 and 12 and provides opportunities for students to develop the skills and knowledge to engage in the Visual Arts throughout their lifetime as artmakers and audiences.
The content of the course provides opportunities for students to engage with the practices of artmaking and art studying using the conceptual framework and the frames.
Students make artworks that build a body of work, developed over time, using an extended range of materials and techniques and various investigations of the world.
Students are required to use a visual arts process diary to document, experiment and expand their artmaking.
In critical and historical studies students utilize the conceptual framework and the four frames to understand artworks and the practices of art history and art criticism.
In the elective course approximately:
- at least 40% of time will be dedicated to artmaking
- at least 40% of time will be dedicated to art study
- the rest of the time will be dedicated to the interests and skills or students and teacher
